Why cant we, as Americans, put all this partisan **** behind us, and become a truly strong, great nation? Why cant we just work together and compromise on a lot of this ****, and become a united front?

The country has been doomed since the first cent was taken from SS. The same time the folks that tax the working people told them they must make and produce to compete with countries that don't police the world, have SS, medicaid, medicare and welfare. These programs were good intentions, but when the rest of the world dumps raw sewage and toxic waste at will, the American companies were forced to walk an ever smaller line, how would you make a product that can compete?. The Chinese have broken every rule in the state's laws on waste and toxic material in products. But the gates are still wide open. I also think that is due to a lack of respect,both respect for others and self respect, that people have. Very seldom do you go through a day where there is a Thank You, Please, Or Your Welcome that is said. People are just rude anymore and care only for themselves and for the almighty dollar. It is a shame that people will screw others over for a buck. Sure you may find a handful of those that have common sense, self respect, respect for others, and common decency. The sad part is, that handful is dwindling everyday. Until we utilize the manners that most of us learned as children, we will never be united again.

spuds, i feel what you are saying. we arent isololationists anymore, we almost have to be involved in the global economy to be the power we are, and it leads us looking very hypocritical on a world stage.
we cant use the military to make the world as pro-human rights as we are, and we cant sanction those countries, we import too many needed items.
We need to become more self-sufficient, so we dont have to rely on the dirty Chinese hah
The Chinese came to mind first. It is about the same for any 3rd world country. They want the biz and we cut our throats. Same deal with the illegals that aren't paying taxes. Bush wanted to legalize them at one point- I can understand how this group of voters and the elimination of the "green card" problems made this look good. Telling the truth, I never see any politician TOUCH this, unless they are going to cut on someone or want these votes.

the Chinese are the biggest culprits IMO
they use dirty practices, have no regard for human rights, no labor laws, etc..
yet we still import a MASSIVE amount of our goods from them.
As wild as it seems to say, but we are too nice on a global scale.
we dont stand up for what we believe and cut these countries off, we just say dont do it, then still trade with them.
what i believe is that if we would cut ties to some of these terrible human rights countries, other countries that have better stances on human rights and labor laws would be more than willing to start producing more goods to have us buy them, at a reasonable rate.
its a shame that we have to rely on a country (China), that at any time would love to attack us and control our country.
If the USA makes it back to sound footing, it will be a long trip. There is a story in some of the papers today about a Dem? lining pockets on defense contracts. Well, really the story was about how the government decided to use this company anyway, even if something like 20% of the cash from part of the millions had gone to secure the contracts and the kickbacks. Should have executed these guys , same as treason. But the protest groups show up at a health care meeting? Something if done right should take the burden off American companies and people. We can't police and feed the world. We will have to tax imports to the level of funding we require for ALL social programs. Defense, SS, medicade, medicare and welfare - throw in public housing. If these products don't carry the same amount- you will always have jobs leaving. Korea and Iraq want troops, but would help if the country was on-fire.

i feel that the commericialization of america, along with the letting big businesses do whatever they want, is what is really ruining our country.
it kills our morals, it hurts US, TRUE americans who would do anything for our country and our state, because big business relies on milking the middle class out of everything.
if it was up to me, I would make the SEC into the DEA, an agency that actually accomplishes something, instead of slaps on teh wrists and club-fed prisons.
